As far as internal policy at LucasArts goes, no. There wasn't a rule that stated they could not go past a certain date. In fact there is Legends content as early as 25,000 BBY so time isn't a real issue.
For practical reasons I imagine few people wanted to stray far from the movies as it makes it harder to ground within the universe. The overwhelming majority of Star Wars content happens within about a 10 year range of TPM and RoTJ.
Even the Old Republic stuff mostly exists as an extension of KOTOR.
Star Wars legends was so cool. It was a major writing feat that was creative, weird, terrible, and amazing all at once. It had a real sense of pulp and uniqueness to it. Sadly legends died before Disney bought it with Troy Denning, Dave Filoni, and SWOTOR ruining Revan.
NJO>LotF. I hate troy denning!!!
So there are no legends that take place in the far future after the original trilogy?
I mean it depends on what you mean by "far future" IG. The furthest it ever goes is 132 ABY, so 132 years after A New Hope.
Is there a reason why nobody ever wrote past that?
